A Day in Old New Castle: The Nation’s Oldest House and Garden Tour
This Saturday, May 21 (rain or shine), Old New Castle opens its doors to the public with the annual A Day in Old New Castle! Founded 96 years ago by the women of Immanuel Episcopal Church on the Green as a fundraiser, the event is now sponsored by the New Castle Community Partnership and the proceeds help to support the community.
There is so much to see and do! Take tours of 40 homes and gardens, tour the Kalmar Nyckel and visit the newly reopened New Castle Court House Museum. Throughout the town are colonial artisans demonstrating traditional methods of living, musical performances, craft vendors and food trucks. While visiting the historical reenactments and encampments of the 1st Delaware Regiment, 17th century New Amstel Dutch Regiment or Fort Delaware Coronet Band, you might just see some roaming pirates!
All your favorite local businesses will be open including Bridgewaters! We will have great New Castle items available. Make sure you stop by some of the amazing restaurants in town also! Has your family lived in Delaware or Old New Castle for a while and shopped at Bridgewaters? Stop by to see our 1939-1943 receipt book – search for your family name and what work we might have done. We look forward to welcoming you to A Day in Old New Castle!
