What do you know about March?
March, currently the third month of the year, was named for the Roman god of war, Mars and was originally the first month of the calendar. It is the start of new beginnings, the first day of spring and, in ancient times, the time of year to resume military campaigns halted by winter.
You may also know of the proverb “If March comes in like a lion, it will go out like a lamb.” This is best known to mean if March starts off stormy, it will end with mild weather. However, there is another interpretation based on the constellations Leo, the lion and Aries, the ram. The constellation Leo rises in the east at the beginning of March and the constellation Aries sets in the west at the end of the month.
The birthstones for March are the aquamarine and bloodstone. Aquamarine has deep green-blue to light, slightly greenish blue colors and symbolizes purity of spirit and soul. Bloodstone is usually a dark green cabochon (a polished, but not faceted gem) that has red spots of iron oxide which brings health and strength to the wearer.
